Implementation of the integrated system as a comprehensive solution to improve the functioning of the company is intended
on a global basis. This may mean that in addition to the preparation of the IT system implementation, a company management system should be designed (or redesigned).
Such activities require a methodical approach. The implementation methodology is a formalized, detailed description divided into individual stages
and actions taken during the implementation process.
The methodology covers all activities from the project preparation stage to the post-implementation testing phase of the implemented system. In the system deployment procedure, the most important are:
competences of people involved in implementation,
Methodology is the tool that supports and synthesizes their work. The methodology is also a plan of action on the basis of which implementation works are carried out.
Several implementation methodologies have been developed for the implementation of MRP II integrated systems. Practically, almost every producer and company providing implementation services of systems of this class has its own methodology. In each of the methodologies, the operating phases are distinguished, which depending on the methodology cover a different range of activities included in their composition. Depending on the methodology, it is from three to eleven phases. These phases may run sequentially, overlap or be run in parallel. Each of the manufacturers (integrators) also has other (often own) tools supporting the system implementation process.
However, none of the methodologies guarantees successful and problem-free implementation. Systematisation of works along with their division into individual parts is a way of ensuring control over the implementation process.
I will write about methodologies in the next post indicating selected methodologies usually used by integrators implementing integrated systems on the Polish market.
